Olivia has been commissioned by Michael Morpurgo to illustrate his entry for the House of Illustration series entitled ‘What Are They Like’.┬áBased on a Victorian parlour game, the HOI have previously invited people in the public eye to create a self-revealing artwork by illustrating 8 of their favourite things from a list of 12: their favourite animal, book, item of clothing, comfort, food, pastime, place, possession, music, shoes, weather or pet aversion (the thing they love to hate!). This time, the subject is illustrated via the same means, but by an illustrator of their choosing. Michael chose Olivia, and for this work she has created a page of a logbook of a fictitious voyage which incorporates the writer’s chosen things along the way. Despite being restricted to A3 size, the work draws on many of Olivia’s favourite media including etching, metal collage and lots of typing on her Imperial ‘Good Companion’. The work is to be auctioned at Sotheby’s on 10th December to raise funds for The House of Illustration’s new building at Kings Cross, due to be opened next year.
